Astrocartography map: your planetary lines

An astrocartography map shows where on Earth each planet was rising, setting, culminating or at the lowest point at your birth moment. Enter your birth details to draw the 40 lines on an offline world map, then click any place to list the lines within 800 km. The lines are identical in both lenses; only the reading differs.

Where were your planets angular at birth?

An exact birth time matters: the lines shift about 15° of longitude (roughly 1,000 miles at the equator) for every hour of error. Everything is calculated on this device.

What are astrocartography lines?

Astrocartography (also called astro*carto*graphy or locational astrology) maps the places where each planet was on one of the four angles at your birth moment. On an MC line the planet was overhead (culminating); on an IC line it was directly underfoot; on an ASC line it was rising on the eastern horizon; on a DSC line it was setting in the west. MC and IC lines run straight north–south. ASC and DSC lines curve because the horizon tilts with latitude, and they are not drawn past 80° latitude, where some planets never rise or set.

Both lenses: the lines are identical in Western and Vedic astrology, because they depend on where the planet actually was in the sky (right ascension and declination), not on which zodiac labels it. What differs is the reading. Western locational astrology reads a Venus line through Venus's themes (affection, pleasure, taste); a Jyotish reader would also weigh the planet's dignity and the houses it rules in your sidereal chart. Neither predicts what will happen in a place.

Method: Astronomy Engine apparent geocentric right ascension and declination, true equator of date; Greenwich apparent sidereal time; geometric horizon with no refraction. MC longitudes agree with a Swiss Ephemeris reference within 0.05°. Related: birth chart, transits, rising sign.

How we calculate

Is astrology a guarantee of what will happen?

No. These calculations locate celestial bodies; astrology is a reflection and timing tradition, not evidence of guaranteed health, financial or relationship outcomes.

How are these results calculated?

Positions come from Astronomy Engine, an open-source astronomy library, and are checked against Swiss Ephemeris in our methodology tests. Western readings use the tropical zodiac; Vedic readings subtract the Lahiri ayanamsa. Terms are defined in the glossary.
