Vedic Moon sign calculator: find your rashi

In Vedic astrology your rashi is the sidereal sign of the Moon at birth, not the Sun sign. This calculator finds it with the Lahiri ayanamsa, gives the Sanskrit name and the traditional sign lord, and compares it with your tropical Moon. The Moon changes sign every two to three days.

What is your Vedic Moon sign?

Lahiri sidereal zodiac, calculated on this device. The Moon moves about 13° a day, so an exact birth time helps; if you do not know it, the result lists every possibility for that day.

Why is my Vedic Moon sign different?

Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, which in 2026 sits about 24° behind the tropical zodiac used in most Western horoscopes. A Moon at 10° tropical Leo is at about 16° sidereal Cancer. In everyday Indian usage "my sign" (rashi) usually means this sidereal Moon sign. Its traditional lord, from Bṛhat Jātaka 1.6, is shown with the result.

The Moon changes sign every two to three days, so with an unknown birth time the calculator shows the sign at the start and end of the day and when it changed. See your nakshatra, the zodiac signs in both systems and the Western Moon sign calculator.

How we calculate

Is astrology a guarantee of what will happen?

No. These calculations locate celestial bodies; astrology is a reflection and timing tradition, not evidence of guaranteed health, financial or relationship outcomes.

How are these results calculated?

Positions come from Astronomy Engine, an open-source astronomy library, and are checked against Swiss Ephemeris in our methodology tests. Western readings use the tropical zodiac; Vedic readings subtract the Lahiri ayanamsa. Terms are defined in the glossary.
