Karana: the 11 half-lunar-day names
A karana is half a tithi, spanning 6° of Moon–Sun separation. Eleven names cover sixty half-tithis in a lunar cycle: seven repeat and four hold fixed positions near the new moon. These guides list every interval for each name and explain how to find its local timing.

How do I use these guides?
Start with the calculation facts in each guide. For current timing, check the panchang or today's sky. Read the methodology before comparing results from different calculators.
How we calculate
Is astrology a guarantee of what will happen?
No. These calculations locate celestial bodies; astrology is a reflection and timing tradition, not evidence of guaranteed health, financial or relationship outcomes.
How are these results calculated?
Positions come from Astronomy Engine, an open-source astronomy library, and are checked against Swiss Ephemeris in our methodology tests. Western readings use the tropical zodiac; Vedic readings subtract the Lahiri ayanamsa. Terms are defined in the glossary.
