Big three calculator: Sun, Moon and rising

Your big three are the Sun sign, the Moon sign and the rising sign (ascendant). This calculator finds all three in the tropical and the Lahiri sidereal zodiac from your birth date, time and city. The rising sign needs an accurate birth time; without one, it shows every possible rising sign that day.

What does your sky look like?

Search your birth city. Daylight saving history is worked out on your device, and the search never leaves it. Rising signs need the time from a birth record.

Offline city directory · type at least 2 letters, then select a result.

New York City, US · America/New_York

Advanced: manual coordinates and UTC offset

Example: New York, June 15, 1990 at noon, EDT (UTC−4). Change all fields for your own chart. Unknown time? Moon sign can be uncertain; rising sign cannot be established.

ONE SKY, TWO ZODIACS

The same moment, measured from two starting points.

The tropical zodiac follows the equinox. The sidereal zodiac subtracts an ayanamsa, a precessional offset. Neither changes where you were born.

Supported dates: 1900–2100. Sidereal: Lahiri. Vedic houses: whole sign. Nodes: mean.

How we calculate

Is astrology a guarantee of what will happen?

No. These calculations locate celestial bodies; astrology is a reflection and timing tradition, not evidence of guaranteed health, financial or relationship outcomes.

How are these results calculated?

Positions come from Astronomy Engine, an open-source astronomy library, and are checked against Swiss Ephemeris in our methodology tests. Western readings use the tropical zodiac; Vedic readings subtract the Lahiri ayanamsa. Terms are defined in the glossary.
