Paksha: meaning in astrology
Paksha means a lunar fortnight. Shukla paksha is the bright half, when the Moon is waxing from new to full. Krishna paksha is the dark half, when it wanes from full to new. Each paksha has 15 tithis. Purnima, the full moon, closes the bright half, and Amavasya, the new moon, closes the dark half.

Some regional calendars begin the month at the full moon and others at the new moon, so month names can differ by a fortnight between communities.
Where does "Paksha" come up on this site?
It is used mainly in the calculators and the methodology page.
How we calculate
Is astrology a guarantee of what will happen?
No. These calculations locate celestial bodies; astrology is a reflection and timing tradition, not evidence of guaranteed health, financial or relationship outcomes.
How are these results calculated?
Positions come from Astronomy Engine, an open-source astronomy library, and are checked against Swiss Ephemeris in our methodology tests. Western readings use the tropical zodiac; Vedic readings subtract the Lahiri ayanamsa. Terms are defined in the glossary.
