Ketu in Cancer: Vedic and Western readings
Ketu in Cancer, with Rahu in Capricorn, is read here through a distant relationship with the comforts of home. This page leads with the Jyotish view of Ketu as a shadow graha read through its sign lord, house and dasha, then notes the Western South Node. It is a reflection prompt, not a forecast.

What is Rahu and Ketu?
Ketu is the south lunar node, the point opposite Rahu, and a chhaya (shadow) graha in Jyotish. It is read through its sign lord, house, conjunctions and dasha period; the Western equivalent is the South Node.
Western / tropical
The South Node in Cancer, for a Western astrologer, points to a familiar role as the nurturer, the one who knows how everyone takes their tea. Reflectively, it asks how much of that care you give from habit. The opposite North Node in Capricorn carries the Western growth thread, and its page explains that side. Here the South Node simply marks what you already know well.
Vedic / sidereal
Ruled by the Moon, Cancer gives Ketu a reading of detachment around home, mother and emotional comfort. That might feel like being at ease anywhere and attached nowhere, or packing light for every trip. A Jyotishi would study the Moon closely, since the mind is the Moon's signification, then Ketu's house, conjunctions and the 7-year dasha. Rahu falls in Capricorn. None of this says anything about an actual family relationship.
The same birth instant can carry different sign labels in the two zodiacs. Apply this reading only to a chart where Ketu is computed in Cancer, and read it with the house, aspects and the rest of the chart.
A small practice
Write down one place that felt like home to you, and why. Then write one way you could bring a small part of that feeling into where you live now.
How to find Rahu in birth chart?
Calculate Ketu for the birth instant and label the zodiac. The table shows what changes between the two lenses; it is a reference, not your personal chart.

Common questions
Why do my tropical and sidereal signs differ?
They use different zodiac reference systems. Read the label on each computed chart rather than subtracting a whole sign.
Can this placement predict what will happen to me?
No. One placement cannot establish events, timing or how other people will behave. Read it with the whole chart and your own experience.
What does activation mean here?
It is an optional chart-based timing label for reflection, not a probability of an event.

The traditional sign lord in the table agrees with Bṛhat Jātaka 1.6 and the separately transmitted BPHS chapter 4, verses 6–24.[30][31] The BPHS web transcription has editorial/OCR errors, so it is a corroborating witness, not a critical edition. Dignity labels, the sidereal offset and time-in-sign figures are standard reference values not yet tied to a ledger passage. The interpretive prose is original writing; the empty activation slot is a product requirement, not a sourced prediction.

Vedic lens
What does the Vedic lens add?
A Vedic reading of Ketu in Cancer begins with a sidereal position, not the tropical sign label on a Western chart. The interpretive topic is selectivity and detachment from familiar rewards, expressed through protecting a reliable base. That is a symbolic starting point rather than a personality verdict.
In the traditional seven-graha rulership scheme, Cancer belongs to Moon. For Ketu, this is a sign whose dispositor is Moon. Nodal dignity differs across schools, so no exaltation or debilitation label is assigned here.
An original reflection prompt: What can you simplify without abandoning a responsibility? For timing, examine Ketu's role in the complete mahadasha–antardasha chain rather than treating this placement as a dated forecast. Other associations and practical circumstances can change the reading. We omit medical and fatalistic claims; decisions still need evidence beyond the chart.

How we calculate
Is astrology a guarantee of what will happen?
No. These calculations locate celestial bodies; astrology is a reflection and timing tradition, not evidence of guaranteed health, financial or relationship outcomes.
How are these results calculated?
Positions come from Astronomy Engine, an open-source astronomy library, and are checked against Swiss Ephemeris in our methodology tests. Western readings use the tropical zodiac; Vedic readings subtract the Lahiri ayanamsa. Terms are defined in the glossary.
