What is North Node in astrology?

In Western astrology the North Node is the point where the Moon's path crosses the Sun's path heading north; it is read as a direction of growth, with the South Node opposite as familiar habit. In Jyotish the same point is Rahu.

Western / tropical

The North Node in Capricorn sits opposite a Cancer South Node. In the modern Western reading, the familiar role is the caretaker, the person everyone vents to and the one who keeps the family group chat going. The growth direction is structure and public responsibility. You might apply for the lead post rather than staying the helpful one in the corner, or set a clear deadline and hold to it. A reading here would test how often caring for others becomes a reason to leave your own plans unfinished.

Vedic / sidereal

In Jyotish, this point is Rahu, interpreted through hunger and amplification rather than growth; see the Rahu page. Sidereally a lot of these charts put the node in Sagittarius, so the Vedic dispositor becomes Jupiter rather than Saturn.

The same birth instant can carry different sign labels in the two zodiacs. Apply this reading only to a chart where the North Node is computed in Capricorn, and read it with the house, aspects and the rest of the chart.

The traditional sign lord in the table agrees with Bṛhat Jātaka 1.6 and the separately transmitted BPHS chapter 4, verses 6–24.[30][31] The BPHS web transcription has editorial/OCR errors, so it is a corroborating witness, not a critical edition. Dignity labels, the sidereal offset and time-in-sign figures are standard reference values not yet tied to a ledger passage. The interpretive prose is original writing; the empty activation slot is a product requirement, not a sourced prediction.
