What is the difference between Western and Vedic astrology?

Uranus is a modern Western symbol for disruption, independence and sudden change. Classical Jyotish does not use it, so the two lenses differ more here than for the classical planets.

Western / tropical

Uranus was in Aquarius, the sign modern astrologers pair it with, for roughly seven years, from about 1995 or 1996 to about 2003. Everyone born then has it. It describes the world that cohort arrived in more than any one person's character. It is worth asking how many of your childhood friendships happened through a screen, and what that taught you about belonging. Look to the house for you specifically.

Vedic / sidereal

Because Uranus was unknown before 1781, classical Jyotish offers no reading of it. A number of modern Vedic astrologers still draw it in. In the sidereal zodiac much of this cohort has it in Capricorn, ruled by Saturn; Saturn's condition and the house are where to look.

Check the zodiac label before using this page. A tropical Aquarius placement may be sidereal Capricorn, so each lens needs its own calculation, and no single sign settles how the rest of the chart reads.

The traditional sign lord in the table agrees with Bṛhat Jātaka 1.6 and the separately transmitted BPHS chapter 4, verses 6–24.[30][31] The BPHS web transcription has editorial/OCR errors, so it is a corroborating witness, not a critical edition. Dignity labels, the sidereal offset and time-in-sign figures are standard reference values not yet tied to a ledger passage. The interpretive prose is original writing; the empty activation slot is a product requirement, not a sourced prediction.
