Durudhara yoga
Durudhara yoga is a Vedic chart pattern associated with balancing what is available with what should be kept in reserve. The rule below identifies a defined arrangement, not a promised event. Its interpretation depends on planetary condition and house ownership; a positive match should lead to a closer reading rather than an automatic prediction.

How does Durudhara yoga form?
Both signs beside the Moon must be occupied by qualifying planets. Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn count; the Sun and nodes do not.
What does this pattern traditionally mean?
The interpretive theme is balancing what is available with what should be kept in reserve. That is a symbolic reading, not evidence that a particular event will occur. Use the label to organize questions about the chart rather than to rank people.
What makes the interpretation stronger or weaker?
A planet on only one side of the Moon does not meet this two-sided test. Check the participating grahas' sign condition, degree relationships, house ownership, and relevant periods. A geometric match and a persuasive interpretation are different findings.
What does the calculator actually check?
| Field | Selected convention |
|---|---|
| Chart | D1, sidereal, whole-sign houses |
| Ascendant | Derived from reliable birth time and place |
| Rule | Planet arrangement described above |
| Unknown inputs | Unresolved, never automatically false |
| Personal timing | Requires separate mahadasha and antardasha computation |
Is Durudhara yoga a guarantee?
No. A planet on only one side of the Moon does not meet this two-sided test.
Can two calculators disagree about this yoga?
Yes. Compare the stated variant, reference point, and excluded planets before treating disagreement as a calculation error. This page exposes those choices rather than concealing them behind a score.
When would this yoga become relevant?
A Vedic reading considers the participating planets' major and subperiods alongside the whole chart. A Western reading may instead emphasize aspects and transits; these are different interpretive methods, not interchangeable labels.

How we calculate
Is astrology a guarantee of what will happen?
No. These calculations locate celestial bodies; astrology is a reflection and timing tradition, not evidence of guaranteed health, financial or relationship outcomes.
How are these results calculated?
Positions come from Astronomy Engine, an open-source astronomy library, and are checked against Swiss Ephemeris in our methodology tests. Western readings use the tropical zodiac; Vedic readings subtract the Lahiri ayanamsa. Terms are defined in the glossary.
