Houses: meaning in astrology
Houses are the twelve divisions of a chart based on the Earth's daily rotation, starting from the ascendant. Signs describe how something operates; houses describe where in life it shows up. The first house is self and body, the fourth home, the seventh partnership, the tenth work and reputation, and so on around the wheel.

Houses depend on birth time and place, which is why two people born on the same day can have very different charts.

How we calculate
Is astrology a guarantee of what will happen?
No. These calculations locate celestial bodies; astrology is a reflection and timing tradition, not evidence of guaranteed health, financial or relationship outcomes.
How are these results calculated?
Positions come from Astronomy Engine, an open-source astronomy library, and are checked against Swiss Ephemeris in our methodology tests. Western readings use the tropical zodiac; Vedic readings subtract the Lahiri ayanamsa. Terms are defined in the glossary.
