Choghadiya: meaning in astrology

Choghadiya is a quick timing method popular in western India. It splits daytime and nighttime into eight parts each, about 90 minutes apiece depending on sunrise and sunset, and labels each part by its quality: Amrit, Shubh and Labh are favorable, Char is neutral, and Udveg, Kaal and Rog are avoided for new starts.

The sequence depends on the weekday. Many people use it for small decisions, like when to leave on a trip, when a full muhurta would be overkill.

Where does "Choghadiya" come up on this site?

It is used mainly in the calculators and the methodology page.

How we calculate

Is astrology a guarantee of what will happen?

No. These calculations locate celestial bodies; astrology is a reflection and timing tradition, not evidence of guaranteed health, financial or relationship outcomes.

How are these results calculated?

Positions come from Astronomy Engine, an open-source astronomy library, and are checked against Swiss Ephemeris in our methodology tests. Western readings use the tropical zodiac; Vedic readings subtract the Lahiri ayanamsa. Terms are defined in the glossary.
