Conjunction: meaning in astrology

A conjunction is when two planets sit at roughly the same degree of the zodiac, 0 degrees apart. Their themes blend and intensify each other, for better or worse depending on the planets and the person. A Sun-Mercury conjunction is very common, since Mercury never strays far from the Sun.

In Vedic astrology planets in the same sign are said to be conjunct even when they are many degrees apart, a looser rule than most Western astrologers use.

How we calculate

Is astrology a guarantee of what will happen?

No. These calculations locate celestial bodies; astrology is a reflection and timing tradition, not evidence of guaranteed health, financial or relationship outcomes.

How are these results calculated?

Positions come from Astronomy Engine, an open-source astronomy library, and are checked against Swiss Ephemeris in our methodology tests. Western readings use the tropical zodiac; Vedic readings subtract the Lahiri ayanamsa. Terms are defined in the glossary.
