Sextile: meaning in astrology

A sextile is an angle of 60 degrees, two signs apart. It links signs of compatible elements, such as fire and air, and is read as an opportunity: the planets cooperate when you make an effort. It is considered milder than a trine.

Astrologers usually allow a smaller orb for sextiles than for the stronger aspects. A Venus-Mars sextile, for example, is often read as easy chemistry that still needs someone to make the first move.

How we calculate

Is astrology a guarantee of what will happen?

No. These calculations locate celestial bodies; astrology is a reflection and timing tradition, not evidence of guaranteed health, financial or relationship outcomes.

How are these results calculated?

Positions come from Astronomy Engine, an open-source astronomy library, and are checked against Swiss Ephemeris in our methodology tests. Western readings use the tropical zodiac; Vedic readings subtract the Lahiri ayanamsa. Terms are defined in the glossary.
