What is North Node in astrology?

In Western astrology the North Node is the point where the Moon's path crosses the Sun's path heading north; it is read as a direction of growth, with the South Node opposite as familiar habit. In Jyotish the same point is Rahu.

Western / tropical

The North Node in Cancer pairs with a Capricorn South Node. The habit here is competence: being the one who handles the paperwork, answers work email during a family dinner, and keeps feelings for later. The growth direction points toward the private and the tender. That could mean saying you are tired before someone notices, or letting a relative cook for you without offering to pay. A modern reading would not ask you to drop ambition, only to stop using it as a place to hide.

Vedic / sidereal

For a Jyotishi this point is Rahu, read through appetite and amplification rather than growth; the Rahu page has that reading. With the sidereal shift, many people born with a tropical Cancer node have it in Gemini, so Mercury becomes the dispositor to examine.

The traditional sign lord in the table agrees with Bṛhat Jātaka 1.6 and the separately transmitted BPHS chapter 4, verses 6–24.[30][31] The BPHS web transcription has editorial/OCR errors, so it is a corroborating witness, not a critical edition. Dignity labels, the sidereal offset and time-in-sign figures are standard reference values not yet tied to a ledger passage. The interpretive prose is original writing; the empty activation slot is a product requirement, not a sourced prediction.
