Sankranti: meaning in astrology
A sankranti is the Sun's entry into a new sidereal sign. There are twelve a year, roughly one a month. Two are major festivals: Makar Sankranti, when the Sun enters Capricorn around January 14, and Mesha Sankranti, when it enters Aries around April 14 and the solar new year begins in several regional calendars.

Because sankrantis follow the Sun, their dates stay nearly fixed on the Gregorian calendar, unlike festivals set by tithi.

How we calculate
Is astrology a guarantee of what will happen?
No. These calculations locate celestial bodies; astrology is a reflection and timing tradition, not evidence of guaranteed health, financial or relationship outcomes.
How are these results calculated?
Positions come from Astronomy Engine, an open-source astronomy library, and are checked against Swiss Ephemeris in our methodology tests. Western readings use the tropical zodiac; Vedic readings subtract the Lahiri ayanamsa. Terms are defined in the glossary.
