Zodiac sign

Pisces zodiac sign: dates, traits and the Vedic view

Pisces is the twelfth and last zodiac sign. Tropical Pisces runs from about February 19 to March 20; in the sidereal zodiac used in Vedic astrology, the Sun is in Pisces, called Meena, from about March 14 to April 13. It is a mutable water sign. Jupiter rules it traditionally and in Vedic astrology; modern Western astrology adds Neptune.

What astrology sign is February?

February belongs to two tropical signs: Aquarius until about February 18 and Pisces from about February 19. In sidereal astrology February is mostly Capricorn and Aquarius; the Sun does not reach sidereal Pisces until about March 14. So a February 25 birthday reads as Pisces in a Western chart and Aquarius in a Vedic one.

Tropical Pisces ends at the March equinox. If you were born on March 19, 20 or 21, the exact time matters; a birth chart calculator will tell you.

Pisces in the Western lens

As the last sign, Pisces gets described as the one that contains a little of all the others. Water makes it emotional and intuitive; mutable makes it fluid. Jupiter, the traditional ruler, gives it faith and generosity, and Neptune, the modern one, adds dreams, art, music and a certain blur at the edges.

The cliché is the daydreamer who can't pay a bill on time. I'd rather start from empathy. Pisces is the sign astrology links with compassion and imagination, and plenty of nurses, musicians and teachers have it prominent. The harder side is boundaries: absorbing other people's moods, saying yes to avoid conflict, escaping when life gets loud.

Prompts:

What is Pisces moon sign?

A Pisces Moon means the Moon was in Pisces at birth. It is a separate placement from your Sun sign, and any Sun sign can have a Pisces Moon. Because the Moon changes sign every two to three days, you need a birth date, time and place to find it; the Moon in Pisces page covers the reading in both lenses.

What changes in Vedic astrology?

The dates move by about 24 days, so most tropical Pisces have a sidereal Aquarius Sun. That surprises a lot of people, because the two signs are described so differently.

The rulership simplifies to Jupiter alone, since Jyotish does not use Neptune. Bṛhat Jātaka lists Jupiter as lord of the twelfth sign.[30] The dignity scheme makes Venus exalted in Meena and Mercury debilitated there. A Vedic astrologer might read a Pisces Venus as especially strong.

Sidereal Meena closes the zodiac with the last pada of Purva Bhadrapada, all of Uttara Bhadrapada and all of Revati, the final nakshatra, associated with the deity Pushan, a guardian of travelers and of safe passage. Ending the cycle with a protector of journeys and herds fits the sign's reputation for care.

Common misconceptions about Pisces

  1. "Pisces is the oldest soul." That idea is popular online and has no basis in either classical tradition. The twelfth sign is the last in the sequence, not a rank.
  2. "Pisces can't make decisions." Mutable signs adapt. Adapting is a decision-making style, just not a rigid one.
  3. "Pisces and Virgo are incompatible opposites." They share the axis of service: practical help and compassionate presence. Together they often cover each other's blind spots.

Source review

The sign lord follows Bṛhat Jātaka 1.6.[30] The Revati deity follows the site's settled nakshatra table (Pūṣan); dignity notes and dates are standard traditional and astronomical information, not separately cited. Reflection prompts are original editorial writing.

Common questions

What does Meena mean?

Meena means fish in Sanskrit. Like the Western symbol, the sign is pictured as two fish, usually facing in opposite directions.

Why does my Vedic chart say Aquarius when I was born on March 1?

Sidereal Pisces starts around March 14, so a March 1 Sun is in sidereal Aquarius. In the tropical zodiac the same Sun is in Pisces.

Are Pisces too sensitive?

Pisces is described as empathic and imaginative. Sensitivity can be a strength in a lot of work and relationships, and how it plays out depends on the whole chart.

How we calculate

Is astrology a guarantee of what will happen?

No. These calculations locate celestial bodies; astrology is a reflection and timing tradition, not evidence of guaranteed health, financial or relationship outcomes.

How are these results calculated?

Positions come from Astronomy Engine, an open-source astronomy library, and are checked against Swiss Ephemeris in our methodology tests. Western readings use the tropical zodiac; Vedic readings subtract the Lahiri ayanamsa. Terms are defined in the glossary.
