Sun sign: meaning in astrology
Your Sun sign is the zodiac sign the Sun was in when you were born. It is what most people mean by "my sign" in Western astrology, and it is the only placement you can find from a birth date alone.

It is often read as core identity and vitality. In Vedic astrology the Sun sign matters but usually comes after the Moon sign and the lagna. Your tropical and sidereal Sun signs are often different.

How we calculate
Is astrology a guarantee of what will happen?
No. These calculations locate celestial bodies; astrology is a reflection and timing tradition, not evidence of guaranteed health, financial or relationship outcomes.
How are these results calculated?
Positions come from Astronomy Engine, an open-source astronomy library, and are checked against Swiss Ephemeris in our methodology tests. Western readings use the tropical zodiac; Vedic readings subtract the Lahiri ayanamsa. Terms are defined in the glossary.
